Newcastle are monitoring Bayer Leverkusen teenager Florian Wirtz and have sent scouts to watch the Germany international in his last two games ahead of heavy summer spending

Newcastle United had scouts at Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday to watch the outstanding Florian Wirtz score a cracker against Union St Gilloise in their Europa League quarter-final.
The midfielder scored the game’s equalizer for the hosts in the 82nd minute after Victor Boniface opened the scoring and the match ended 1-0.
Newcastle were back in the scouts when Leverkusen visited Wolfsburg on Sunday, but 19-year-old attacking midfielder Wirtz started on the bench.
He was booked after coming on in the second half, although the game finished 0–0.
Wirtz is regarded as one of the best talents in Germany and Leverkusen is hesitant to sell.

Since his debut in May 2020, he has scored 23 goals in 95 games for the German side.
Wirtz is known for his offensive instinct and his ability to dodge the field. He can play centrally or wide and attracts interest from some of the best clubs in Europe.
He has also been capped six times for Germany’s senior team after making a number of appearances at various youth levels.

Meanwhile, Newcastle will be spending big money again in the summer as their new owners continue to rebuild the club.
The Magpies are in an excellent position to finish in the Champions League places in the Premier League this season, which should allow them to sign some of Europe’s top talent.
They are currently fourth, three points ahead of Tottenham in fifth after playing a game more.
Club owners, meanwhile, are in talks with several European clubs about buying an affiliate abroad in a bid to expand their empire.
