According to the northern echoNewcastle are also considering a move for the left winger as Eddie Howe looks set to bolster his squad in the January window.

Howe is aiming for depth in broad areas amid concerns over Allan Saint-Maximin’s injury record, the Echo reports.

Trossard has remained committed to Brighton when asked about his future, insisting that he focus on his club and the World Cup with Belgium rather than moving away from the Amex Stadium.

He told the BBC: “It’s hard to say anything about that now and it all depends on which club would come.

‘[It will depend on if] I feel good and privately things are going well.

“But I also know how good I am at Brighton, it also looks promising with new coach Roberto De Zerbi.”

The Belgian is under contract with Brighton until the summer of 2024, but the club has the option to extend his contract for another year.

Brighton will also not want to lose another of their star players after the departures of Ben White, Yves Bissouma, Marc Cucurella and Neal Maupay in the past year.

Newcastle poured out £123million over the summer, including a club record £63million on Swedish striker Alexander Isak, but Howe has insisted they will not spend beyond their means.
