Newcastle are in talks with Saudi club Al Ahli over the sale of winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

The 26-year-old has not traveled with Eddie Howe’s squad for Tuesday night’s friendly at Rangers and his future will be decided in the coming days.

Sources say the deal, worth around £30 million, is moving in the right direction.

Saint-Maximin’s likely departure will pave the way for the arrival of Harvey Barnes, with a deal closing in on a £35 million package for the Leicester defender.

Howe said over the weekend he would “like” to keep Saint-Maximin in St James’ Park. However, there is an awareness that due to Financial Fair Play restrictions the club will need to trade players to add to their squad this summer.

Saint-Maximin is now unlikely to join the Magpies on their tour of the United States this week, and that would only change if a deal with Al Ahli doesn’t happen.
