Newcastle are confident to sign Kieran Tierney for £30m this summer as Eddie Howe looks to the Scottish left-back after falling out of favor at Arsenal

  • Kieran Tierney has only started five league matches for Arsenal this season
  • The Scot is a summer target for Champions League candidate Newcastle
  • Magpies left-back Dan Burn has recently been criticized for his performance

Newcastle are reportedly confident in signing Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney as Eddie Howe has his eye on a new left-back this summer.

The Scot has fallen out of favor with the Emirates this season with Oleksandr Zinchenko firmly ahead of him in the pecking order.

He has played just 118 games since joining the club from Celtic in 2019. He struggled with a number of injuries and could leave at the end of the season.

According to The sunNewcastle will make a £30 million offer to sign Kieran Tierney and sources close to the player believe a move north is increasingly likely.

Tierney has started just five league games this season and was an unused substitute in Arsenal’s 3-3 draw with Southampton on Friday night.

Dan Burn was criticized by supporters for his performance against Aston Villa last weekend

Zinchenko’s success and Arsenal’s title fight has led manager Mikel Arteta to regularly select an unchanged squad.

Tierney could ask to move on, with Champions League football a realistic possibility for Newcastle next season.

Dan Burn has been used regularly at left-back for the Magpies this season after demoting Matt Targett, but was criticized by supporters after last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

However, Howe defended the former Brighton man, stressing that his versatility is important to the team.

Dan Burn is an incredible player and an incredible person. I think what he gives you is beyond measure,” Howe recently said.

“He looks like Sean Longstaff. They have similar kinds of qualities that they bring to the team.

“Sometimes it’s not measurable what those kinds of players give you. We really appreciate Dan, whatever position he plays in. His versatility is also important.’
