A newborn girl has been found covered in bites and badly sunburned. Her mother left her on an anthill and has now accused her of attempted murder.
Nadezhda Sorokina, 32, from Russia, abandoned the one-day-old girl in Milenino on July 23 before a shocked passerby spotted the screaming baby.
Nikolai Pakhomov found the newborn baby covered in painful ant bites and told local media he initially thought the baby’s cries were coming from kittens meowing.
The 25-year-old said: ‘I automatically dialed ‘112’ and called the emergency services.
“I took off my T-shirt, wrapped the baby in it and carried her to the ambulance.”

Doctors declared the newborn healthy, except for insect bites and sunburn. They then called a local priest, who named the baby Maria Nikolaevna in honor of her savior.
Maria has been placed with local child protection services and there is already a couple who want to adopt her, local media report.
Police later tracked down Sorokina, who is now charged with attempted murder.
The single mother of three reportedly confessed that she gave birth to a girl on July 22 and then abandoned her because she could not afford to feed a fourth child.
According to neighbor Veronika Dokukina, Sorokina decided to leave the baby behind after a rift with the girl’s father.
She said, ‘I have a little child of my own—a one-year-old child. I gave her some baby clothes and she said, ‘I don’t need them anymore.’
“I asked, ‘What happened?’ She said, ‘He stressed me out so much, I got so nervous that I had a miscarriage.’”
“It looks like she didn’t miscarry at all, she hid it. That means she planned it in advance.”

Doctors rushed to save the baby after she was abandoned by her mother
The single mother of three reportedly confessed that she gave birth to a girl on July 22 and then abandoned her because she could not afford to feed a fourth child.
Nadezhda’s ex-husband, the father of her other children, claimed he knew nothing about her actions.
He said she had never been a model mother, but he could never have imagined this.
This came after a three-day-old baby girl was found eaten by ants in 2015 after being abandoned in a remote forest in Russia.
Police launched an investigation after a passerby found the badly bitten baby on the outskirts of Chelyabinsk in central Russia.
A police spokesman said at the time: ‘The person who found the girl heard her crying and when he looked further he found the child lying on a pile of leaves, covered in ants.
“It was clear that the child had been abandoned and there was no one else to be seen. They picked her up and called an ambulance.”
The baby still had an umbilical cord attached when the man found her while on his way to work.
