Rising NRL star Josh Curran attempted to obtain cocaine from a 16-year-old in a nightclub toilet before knocking out the teen’s front teeth, police will argue.

The New Zealand Warriors attacker was partying at Level Up in Port Macquarie on the north coast of New South Wales on the eve of the Parramatta-Penrith grand final.

Curran, who was with two family members, is said to have approached the 16-year-old and his companion around 3 a.m. on Oct. 2 at the popular club formerly known as Altitude.

The 23-year-old footballer asked the teen where he could buy cocaine and where to continue drinking after Level Up closed, police said.

Curran and the 16-year-old then went to the club’s bathroom to continue the conversation, away from CCTV cameras.

The 16-year-old allegedly gave Curran his cell phone so the couple could exchange contact information, but the player then put the device in his pocket and the teen tried to get it back.

Curran is accused of punching the 16-year-old in the face, knocking out two of his front teeth. The teenager, who should not have been on the property due to his age, then fled.

Security arrived and there was reportedly another confrontation with Curran, who was evicted from the William Street building.

Officers from the Mid North Coast precinct opened an investigation and Curran was arrested in Manly on October 21.

He was charged with recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm, causing bodily harm and theft of the teen’s phone.

Sydney-born Curran has been playing second-row or lock-up for the Warriors since 2019, having previously been signed to the Roosters’ feeder club, North Sydney.

He represented the Indigenous All Stars three times and was chosen for the Prime Minister’s XIII against Papua New Guinea in September.

Curran’s charges have not led to the NRL’s “no-fault” policy of suspending players, which suspends players if they receive a maximum jail term of 11 years or more if convicted.

Daily Mail Australia understands that Liquor & Gaming NSW, which controls licensed properties, is not involved in the matter.

Curran is said to appear before the local Port Macquarie court on December 7.
