A police officer has been praised for his firm response to a sovereign citizen who started lecturing him on his rights after he served her with an infringement notice.

The woman began a speech about the officer's alleged rights in response to his question.

“I'm going to read you your rights first,” she said.

But the police officer had no time for the woman's antics and replied: “You don't have to read me my rights.”

The confident woman continued her reading despite the officer's indication that he was not interested.

“You have the ability to give me nothing,” she said.

The officer then sent a clear message to the driver and simply walked away while she continued talking.

When the woman finally finished her speech, the officer returned to the car and confirmed the woman's mailing address, which she protested.

“I am the beneficiary of my trust, not the trustee, so you can send it to the trustee,” she said.

“Send it there; that's fine; it will be paid for by my trust'.

Viewers of the video responded on social media with praise for the no-nonsense officer.

'I would do the same. It's a waste of breath!' one said.

“I wonder how stubborn she will be when all the demerits see her being unlicensed, uninsured and arrested,” wrote another.

While a third commented: 'She's just collecting tickets. She's not winning'.

In October, another New Zealand man stopped by police captured a bizarre interaction in which he read the officer his “rights” before threatening a $100-a-minute fine if he was arrested.

It is understood the incident took place in the Nelson region of the South Island.

After police asked to see his driver's license, the man calling himself “Mark” said he didn't have one and that “you guys know that.”

But the confused officer replied that he did not know the man.

'Mark' then presented a homemade ID which the officer rejected before giving a speech about the officer's rights.

“You have the right to remain silent, you have the right to do nothing, you have the right to get in your car and go back to where you came from,” he said.

In October, another sovereign citizen tried to tell a police officer his rights while producing a fake identification document (stock image pictured)

He then warned the officer that there would be a $100 per minute fee for detaining him, to which the officer responded, “Sweet.”

After asking Mark for his driver's license again, the driver produced a piece of laminated paper that he claimed was a legitimate ID handed in by the officer's “boss.”

The man was eventually arrested by the officer as he repeated his threat to charge him $100 per minute.

The unfazed officer replied, “I don't care. You can send me the bill.”

Responding to the incident, a New Zealand Police spokesperson told local media: “This is an excellent example of one of our staff responding appropriately to the current situation.”
