New York Yankees fans have been left furious after the team suffered a ninth straight loss on Tuesday night – their worst losing streak in 41 years.
Without a win since beating the Marlins on Aug. 11 in Miami, the Yankees are in their first nine-game slip since Sept. 13 to Sept. 21, 1982 — the final month of a 79-win season when they employed three managers: Bob Lemon, Gene Michael and Clyde King.
And their miserable form continued in a 2-1 loss to the Washington Nationals in which Tommy Kahnle allowed a go-ahead against CJ Abrams with two outs in the eighth inning.
Yankees fans, who support the richest franchise in MLB worth more than $7 billion, took to social media to express their anger at both the unwanted piece of history and their terrible season in general.
They wrote on X: ‘Not serious, just not serious at all’.

Abrams tied the game 1-1 by hitting a substitution in Kahnle’s first pitch (1-2) from the foul pole in right field. It was the fast shortstop’s 13th home run and the sixth to give Washington the lead this year.
Carter Kieboom homered in the third inning on the second pitch he faced on his season debut after returning from Tommy John surgery that cost him the entire season.
Ben Rortvedt homered and hit both basehits for the Yankees, who were held to two basehits for the fifth time this year. New York also fell to 12-27 since reaching 10 games over .500 on July 4 and was held to one point or less for the fourth time in six games.

Carlos Rodón gave up one run and six hits in six innings in his best eight starts as a Yankee. Returning from a two-week absence due to a left hamstring strain, the southpaw also got help from his outfield defense, who threw out three Nationals when he tried to convert a single into a double play.
Keibert Ruiz led off the fourth by sliding over the second and was easily thrown out by right fielder Aaron Judge. Ildemaro Vargas made the last out of the inning when rookie left fielder Everson Pereira made a strong relay throw to shortstop Anthony Volpe, who shot at second baseman Gleyber Torres to complete the play.
Josiah Gray pitched for several family and friends from nearby New Rochelle, New York, pitching six innings and surviving with five walks.
