The New York Yankees will once again have Jeter, a shortstop, play for them. That's 25-year-old Jeter Downs, named after the Bronx legend.

Downs was signed by the Yankees on Tuesday off waivers from the Washington Nationals.

He already played for two other MLB teams after making his big league debut last year.

Downs' MLB debut came with the Yankees' archrival, the Boston Red Sox. He spent last season with the Washington Nationals, where he played just five at bats in the big league.

Yankees fans are more familiar with Derek Jeter, who played for the team from 1995 to 2014 and is a five-time World Series champion.

Downs was selected by the Cincinnati Reds at No. 32 overall in the first competitive balancing round of the 2017 MLB Draft.

Downs was part of the deal that sent Matt Kemp and Yasiel Puig to the Reds.

He was also part of another big name signing that sent him to the Red Sox alongside Alex Verdugo for Mookie Betts and David Price.

Before Downs debuted in the MLB last year, Jeter sent him a message on social media.

“Had a chance to meet @jeter2downs a few years ago (he wasn't with the Red Sox at the time). Congratulations and good luck…unless you're playing the Yankees,” Jeter posted.
