Nassau County Republican leaders eviscerated Rep. George Santos at a news conference Wednesday and even called for his fellow New Yorker to resign from Congress.

Last year’s ‘George Santos’ campaign was a campaign of deceit, lies and fabrication,’ said Nassau County Republican Chairman Joseph Cairo.

New representative Anthony D’Esposito joined the group remotely to ask his colleague to resign.

When Santos was asked if he planned to resign after the call, he told reporters: “I won’t.”

Nassau County Republican leaders eviscerated Rep. George Santos at a news conference Wednesday and even called for his fellow New Yorker to resign from Congress.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said his office would have “no interaction” with the Republican congressman from New York’s 3rd district until he resigns.

He said Santos calling himself Jewish was “ridiculous” and “really tragic” given the number of descendants of Holocaust survivors living in his district.

New York State Senator Jack Martin confirmed that he will not be working with Santos’ office either. He admitted that Santos was unlikely to heed his call, noting that it’s “probably impossible to shame the shameless.”

“But here we are united in sending a message that until he is removed one way or another,” Martin added.

The group of officials called Santos’s response to his lies “disingenuous, simplistic and insulting.”

Republican Hempstead City Supervisor Donald Clavin said, “He has unified the country in their opposition to him.” It’s a national joke. It’s an international joke, but this joke has to stop… Resign immediately. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Today.’

Pamela Panzenbeck, mayor of Glen Cove, New York, in the Santos district, said: “We were all fooled, we are shocked and angry.”

“It’s time for you to quit, George,” Panzenbeck said. He is mocking the entire congressional system.

Blakeman even suggested that Santos seek psychological help.

‘He needs help. She is she is not a normal person,’ she said, calling Santos’ lies ‘pathological’.

Cairo said Santos would not be welcome at any future meetings or public events at the Republican Party headquarters in Nassau. He has disgraced the House of Representatives and we do not consider him one of our congressmen.

Cairo admitted that the county’s political arm did not properly investigate Santos before endorsing him.

“I’m ashamed to believe people,” he said. ‘Now we are going to change our process.’

Cairo said it has not spoken with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Republican leaders have so far remained silent on the hoax.

Santos was a safe vote for McCarthy at a time when he needed all the votes he could get to win the Speaker’s deck. So far, at least three members of McCarthy’s conference — Reps. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis., Nancy Mace, RS.C., and Dusty Johnson, RS.D. — have said publicly that Santos should not receive committee assignments. .

McCarthy said Wednesday that Santos would not sit on any of the major committees, whose members will be decided today.

Both McCarthy and Scalise claimed not to have seen the Nassau GOP calls to resign when asked about them just after the news conference.

“Let me read it and I’ll respond,” McCarthy said.

Cairo said that when he was researching Santos as he prepared to run for office, the 34-year-old knew that he liked sports and claimed to be a star on Baruch’s volleyball team who helped lead the team to the championship of the league.

Baruch’s men’s volleyball team won the league championship in 2009, but Santos could not have been on the team because there is no record of him having attended college.
