New York Magazine seems confused over Meghan Markle’s role in the Royal Family.
The glossy publication went out of its way to mention her title -Duchess of Sussex – in a tweet on Monday after deleted a posting that only mentioned her by name, according the Daily Star.
The social media post from The Cut, the magazine’s fashion portal, originally read: ‘Presenting our Fall Fashion issue cover star: Meghan Markle.’
It was deleted, according to the Daily Star, and replaced with a tweet that said: ‘Presenting our Fall Fashion issue cover star: Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.’

New York Magazine deleted a tweet that did not mention Meghan Markle’s royal title and replaced it with one that refers to her as the Duchess of Sussex
Both postings professed that she’s cut ties with the British royal family, sometimes referred to derisively as ‘The Firm.’
‘She’s left the Firm behind. Harry’s found a polo team in Santa Barbara. The kids are doing great,’ the pitch says.
The only other variation is the last sentence which says: Now Markle is ready for her own next act’ in the original tweet and ‘She’s ready for her own next act.’

Below the text is the cover page which features a photo of Markle in a black turtleneck, reminiscent of photo of the Harry’s deceased mother, Lady Diana Spencer, that donned the cover of Michael O’Mara’s photo book.
In the interview, Markle professes her independence from the monarchy, cheekily telling the magazine, ‘Do you want to know a secret? I’m getting back…on Instagram.’
She claimed that while living as a royal she was restricted to a pre-existing account @KensingtonRoyal, which she get permission to post to.

Before she married Harry, she had her own account with 3 million followers, according to New York Magazine.
‘It’s a big adjustment – a huge adjustment to go from that kind of autonomy to a different life,’ Markle says.
It’s unclear why the magazine both touts the seemingly contradictory message of the actress and lifestyle brand pitchwoman’s independence from and membership to the royal family.
An inquiry to New York Magazine was not immediately returned.
In March 2020, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Markle, announced that they were going to ‘step back’ from their roles as ‘senior members’ of the Royal Family.
