The home features custom sound proof windows, a wood burning fireplace and a laundry room.

Ledger moved into the property after breaking up with actress Michelle Williams, with whom he shares a daughter, in September 2007.

He was found dead in the apartment on January 22, 2008, after overdosing on medication after months of physical and mental exhaustion.

His official cause of death was an accident, from abusing a lethal combination of sleeping pills, painkillers and anti-anxiety drugs.

Ledger’s body was discovered by a masseuse who came to his loft in Manhattan’s Soho neighborhood for a scheduled appointment.

The police found his apartment turned into a sanctuary for the Joker, his most torturous role.

Inside the ‘spotlessly clean’ New York City apartment, investigators found several items showing Ledger’s obsession with the Batman villain, a law enforcement source told the New York Post.

Those items included Batman comics, investigations into the origin of the Joker and clowns, small statues of clowns, and recordings of Ledger practicing his own version of the Joker voice that would haunt a new generation of DC Comics fans.

In the aftermath of Ledger’s death in June 2008, many blamed the role for causing him to enter a dark period.

Ledger told the New York Times in November 2007 that he was struggling with insomnia, sometimes only getting two hours of sleep a night.

The Dark Knight became a huge box office success, grossing over a billion.

Many critics consider Ledger’s role as the Joker to be the best version of the villain and also Ledger’s best work.

The role saw him posthumously win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

He was 28 years old at the time of his death and left behind a daughter, Matilda, 17, with ex-girlfriend Michelle Williams, 42.
