After the New York Liberty defeated the Las Vegas Aces 82-63 in the WNBA Commissioners Cup, Liberty superstar Sabrina Ionescu took to social media to say that the sneakers she wore in-game were stolen from Michelob Ultra Arena.

The announcement was actually more of a plea for the return of the custom insoles that came in her signature “Sabrina 1s.” The shoes were made with specially modified feet due to her past injury history, according to WNBA reporter Khristina Williams.

Williams also said a source familiar with the situation says Ionescu believes the boots were taken either after the Commissioners Cup game or in the morning before the shooting. The shoes were locked in a room off the guest locker room that only certain arena and team employees had access to.

“Never thought my shoes would be stolen from an opposing arena…,” Ionescu wrote on Thursday about half an hour after the shoot around ended before another match against Las Vegas.

“Please return my insoles. RIP to my Sabrina 1s’

Ionescu had just made his debut with the ‘Oregon’ colorway for the boots during the championship game.

She finished the Finals with 12 points, eight rebounds and two assists, while also hitting consecutive three-pointers early in the fourth quarter.

In the second of this week’s matchups, the Aces avenged losing to New York in the cup final, but Ionescu was the brightest for the Liberty in the defeat, despite being robbed of her precious custom insoles and signature boots, etched her name in WNBA history.

Not only did Ionescu become only the third player in league history to score 100 or more three-pointers in a season, joining Diana Taurasi and Kelsey Plum, and now trails the duo for most three-pointers in a season.

In addition, Ionescu recorded her 11th game this season with five or more 3-pointers to pass Taurasi for most ever in a season.

Ionescu scored a team-high 22 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists, though it’s not yet clear on the details of her footwear in Thursday’s game.
