The NFL has suspended New York Jets wide receivers coach Miles Austin for one year for allegedly violating the league’s wagering policy, according to multiple reports published Friday night.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, there is no suggestion that Austin bet on NFL games, but apparently he did on other sports, which is a violation of NFL wagering policy.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Miles is appealing the decision.
New York Jets wide receivers coach Miles Austin suspended for one year
Mike Garafolo reported that a statement from Miles Austin’s attorney read: “The NFL has suspended Miles Austin for gambling from a legal mobile account on non-NFL professional sports and table games.”
‘Miles did not wager on any NFL games in violation of the NFL’s Staff Wagering Policy.
He has fully cooperated with the NFL investigation. He is appealing his suspension.
The Jets lost 19-3 to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night and Miles was not a coach for that game.
Miles is the NFL’s second high-profile suspension this year for gambling, after the Atlanta Falcons’ Calvin Ridley was suspended in March for betting on NFL games in 2021.
Ridley was suspended for the entirety of the 2022 season, but in that time he was traded to the Jaguars, to whom he will return next year.
