The New York Jets are expected to trade struggling quarterback Zach Wilson during the offseason after the team informed him of its plans when he was benched amid woes earlier this season.

Dianna Russini of NFL Network added that “this is part of the reason why (Wilson) was reluctant to start again weeks ago,” referring to when Wilson was demoted to the bench in November. Wilson has started 12 of 17 games for the Jets this year.

On Sunday, the Jets will start veteran Trevor Siemian at quarterback for the third straight week. Head coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that Wilson was still in the concussion protocol, ruling Wilson out of the team's season finale.

It could also mark the end of Wilson's tenure in New York after three disappointing seasons in which he never lived up to lofty expectations as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 draft.
