New York Jets’ dismal season hits comical new low with unbelievable touchdown error against the Texans

A rookie wide receiver for the New York Jets had a chance to break a scoreless deadlock on Thursday Night Football, but he messed it up in truly spectacular fashion.

In the second quarter of the game, wide receiver Malachi Corley — a third-round pick of the Jets out of Western Kentucky — made the first handoff of his NFL career.

Corley was able to muscle his way into the end zone to break the scoreless deadlock and give the Jets a 6-0 lead.

At least, that’s what it looked like at first.

Further investigation revealed that as Corley raced toward the end zone, he began celebrating prematurely by dropping the ball just short of the goal line.

To make matters worse, the ball managed to roll all the way from the one-yard line to the back of the end zone.

Officials reviewed the tape and overturned the touchdown, ruling it to be a fumble and touchback that gave the ball to the Texans.

After the game, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers addressed the mistake: “We took a touchdown off the board. Foolish play… we said we would score 28-30. I’m counting it as 28 tonight, even though the scoreboard says 21.”

Jets head coach Jeff Ulbrich said, “I was definitely frustrated, to be honest, and angry at the same time, but what a great opportunity for this kid to grow and learn from. I promise you that in 10 years, if he’s still in this league, that will never happen again.”

At halftime, the Jets trailed 7-0 after Texans running back Joe Mixon was able to punch his way in for a score.

But surprisingly, they found a way to get back into the game and beat Houston 21-13 for their third win of the year.

That was partly due to a spectacular catch by Garrett Wilson, who netted a one-handed catch to clinch the win.

The Jets have struggled this season despite having one of their most talented rosters in years, entering Thursday’s season at 2-6. Now they move to 3-6, snapping a five-game skid in the process.
