New York earthquake: watch Yankees star Gleyber Torres continue batting practice even as stadium SHAKES… while MLB Network studio is seen shuddering during 4.8-magnitude tremor ahead of home opener

Yankees star Gleyber Torres didn’t want an earthquake to disrupt his preparations for the home opener in New York on Friday – even as Yankee Stadium shook during the magnitude 4.8 quake.

The New York City metropolitan area was struck by the earthquake shortly before 11 a.m. Friday morning, with the US Geological Survey reporting that the epicenter was near Lebanon, New Jersey.

The tremors were felt in the Bronx, where the Yankees play the Blue Jays in New York’s first home game of the 2024 season.

Incredible footage shared on social media showed shortstop Torres warming up when the earthquake struck on Friday.

But even as the camera shook and Yankee Stadium felt the tremors, Torres continued his batting practice as if nothing had happened.

“The field was shaking,” said Yankees star Austin Wells, who was practicing at the time. He told The mail: ‘I definitely felt it.’

Manager Aaron Boone, who was watching batting practice from behind the cage, added, “I thought it was actually the sound system…I just (felt) vibrations on my feet.”

Meanwhile, across the Hudson River in Secaucus, New Jersey, coverage on ‘MLB Central’ was halted by the shocking earthquake.

As panelists talked ahead of Friday’s game, the cameras started shaking live on air.

‘Are we having an earthquake? Serious. Are we having an earthquake?’ one analyst quickly asked with a mixture of disbelief and amusement.

‘What is going on here? The control room is shaking, we are shaking,” said another.

As the analysts tried to make sense of the unfolding situation, the network came to a standstill.

Molly Qerim, the host of ESPN’s “First Take,” also posted a clip showing her shocked reaction to the earthquake while she was at the network’s studios in Manhattan.
