The first trailer for Those who are about to diea new historical epic debuting on Prime Video has been released – and it looks like the kind of show you’d get if Gladiator And Game of Thrones had a baby.
To be released on Amazon’s primary streamer in mid-July. Those who are about to die marries the political scheming and moral corruption of George RR Martin’s famous fantasy works, Gladiator‘s bloody Colosseum action and ancient Roman melodrama are sure to appeal to Prime Video’s global audience. It’s been a while since Prime Video had an unmissable and fictional series about ancient history – Vikingsone of the best Prime Video shows, the latter is what I consider must-see television. Those who are about to diecould then give its similarly positioned genre rivals on the world’s other top streaming services a run for their money.
Not content with just giving a glimpse of the latest TV Original, Amazon has also provided a long story synopsis – and I mean long – to expand on the footage just released.
“Rome in 79 AD: The center of the Roman Empire is the richest city in the world, and there is a large influx of slave laborers from the growing empire to take over the work. The Roman population – bored, restless and increasingly violent – is kept in balance mainly by two things: free food and spectacular entertainment, in the form of chariot races and gladiator fights.
“Those who are about to die delves into the world of games – a world characterized by bloodlust, greed for money, lust for power and corruption. The races in Circus Maximus are controlled by four patrician companies: the blue, red, white and green factions, and shares in the four factions are the most valuable things in Rome. As the populace’s taste for entertainment becomes more tasteless and bloodthirsty, a specially designed stadium for gladiatorial combat is needed: the Colosseum. The size of the stadium and the gladiator and animal fights are enormous – just like the underworld with the flourishing gambling industry. Underground, beneath the stands, thousands of people work and live – including thousands who will die for the games.”
Who is involved in Those About To Die?
A whole host of famous names. The striking bottom Those who are about to dieThe acting contingent of sir anthony hopkins is the legendary british actor that viewers will recognize from countless films and tv shows including Silence of the lambs and the first three of Marvel’s four Thor movies. Hopkins will play Emperor Vespasian, who founded the Flavian dynasty and ruled the Roman Empire for ten years.
However, the multi-award winning star isn’t the only notable actor in the series. Take a look at the list below, which contains two Thrones alumni, to see who else is involved:

Robert Rodat, who wrote the screenplays for Saving Private Ryan And The patriotis Those who are about to die‘s leading writer.
Those who are about to die consists of 10 episodes and will launch exclusively on Prime Video on Friday, July 19.
