New trailer for A24’s horror film The Front Room scares me with its creepy mother-in-law vibes
A24 makes some of the best horror films with recent titles such as Heir apparent And Beau is scared exploring themes surrounding complicated families, especially when it comes to mothers, and it looks like the movie is imminent The front room will follow in their footsteps with a new trailer.
The new movieThe film’s official trailer (below) features a young couple forced to take in their husband’s estranged stepmother – but unwanted guests are a nuisance and this one is no exception. We are introduced to Belinda (Brandy Norwood) who learns that her husband’s father died in an accident, and one of his dying wishes was for his wife (played by Kathryn Hunter) to live with his son if anything were to happen to him. Belinda and her husband are not happy with the idea, but soon realize that if they do not welcome her mother-in-law into their home, her husband will be removed from the will.
While it may sound a bit annoying, there’s a lot more going on here and it’s starting to get very A24 with creepy visuals everywhere. The couple discovers that she is hiding some pretty dark secrets and is incredibly selfish and cheats her way around the house.
What do we know about De Voorkamer?
The front room hits theaters on September 6, 2024. While it’s still too early to reveal an official streaming release date, we can assume it will be on Max datum A24’s multi-year deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. As soon as we have clarity about this, we will keep you informed.
The film is the directorial debut for Max and Sam Eggers, and if you’re thinking ‘wait a minute, that name sounds familiar’, you’re right. They are the brothers of Robert Eggers who is known for his work The witch And The lighthouseand it seems all three brothers are horror enthusiasts.
However, they have a different style. The front room is a modern horror that plays on some religious and occult tropes, as we see the mother-in-law behaving very strangely throughout the trailer. Belinda is also pregnant with the couple’s first child, so expect motherhood to be a very prominent theme here.
