Stephen King film adaptations are plentiful, and the horror author’s works are regularly adapted for the big and small screen. Sometimes they’re masterpieces (check out our list of the best Stephen King movies), other times they’re total flops, but Max’s recent version of Salem’s Plot is starting to look promising.
What immediately stands out to me is the fact that they chose to set the story in the 70s. This already feels like they are staying true to the original book and I am glad they didn’t decide to modernize it. The 70s vibe just works and if it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it!
As one of the best streaming services out there, we always have a keen eye on what Max will do next, and they recently treated us to the first trailer for their take on Salem’s Plotwhich you can view below.
When is Salem’s Lot coming to Max?
Just in time for Halloween: Salem’s Plot streams on Max starting October 3rd. I’m excited to tune in and see if it’s worth adding to our best horror movies roundup, because let’s face it, horror can be notoriously hit and miss. But right now, I’m feeling optimistic!
If you live in the UK, you don’t have to worry because Salem’s Plot is also getting a theatrical release on October 11th, so there will be plenty of opportunities for those without a Max subscription to see it too. However, if you’re keen to see Max, here’s how to do so in the UK.
The new adjustment of Salem’s Plot is produced by horror legend James Wan who has worked on projects such as Saw, Treacherous, And The Incantationso it’s safe to say it’s in very experienced hands. If you haven’t read the book or seen the original 1979 film, it follows a writer (he loves writers, right?) who returns to his hometown to find the locals are being turned into vampires. That’s about all you need to know, now buckle up for a wild ride!
