Ash Barty made a rare public appearance in Brisbane on Tuesday as the former tennis superstar was in action with her newborn son Hayden and mother Josie.

Barty, 27, shocked the world by quitting tennis after her Australian Open victory almost two years ago, and has dismissed suggestions she could return to professional sport in the future.

But she was willing to attend as a spectator this week, with the former champion wearing a khaki shirt as she cradled her six-month-old son in Queensland.

She saw compatriot Arina Rodionova beat American Sofia Kenin in straight sets at the Pat Rafter Arena to advance to the last 16 of the Brisbane International.

Barty has been involved in tennis since her retirement. In November, she announced she was teaming up with writer Jasmin McGaughey, illustrator Jade Goodwin and publisher HarperCollins to release her new book, “My Dream For You,” in March.

The story is about a mother's dream to share precious moments with her new baby, such as playing in a park and traveling the world.

“I'm so excited about the release of this beautiful picture book,” said Ash.

“It's a celebration of the possibilities that await new babies, a testament to the hope every parent holds, and a reminder that our dreams can shape a better future for our children.”

“I hope new parents and their little ones enjoy reading as much as our family does.”

It comes a year after Ash released a series of children's books titled Little Ash, following her retirement from the sport.

The series was the first Australian children's launch of 2022 and has sold more than 100,000 copies since release.
