New mom bans husband from delivery room after awful comment leaves her ‘mortified’
The husband of a new mother has sparked outrage after she admitted asking doctors to add “another stitch” to her vagina after the birth of their child.
The 28-year-old woman took to Reddit to describe the incident, in which her husband – who she called Shawn – requested the so-called ‘husband stitch’.
The procedure is an outdated medical practice in which doctors add an extra suture during vaginal recovery after childbirth Healthline.
The mother-of-one admitted she was “mortified” and “so angry” when she heard 32-year-old Shawn request the unethical practice.
After the new father was criticized by the doctor, the mother also attacked her partner and banned him from ever being in the delivery room again.

In the AITAH (Am I The A**hole) subreddit, the mother wondered if she was wrong for banning her husband, explaining that he attributed his behavior to “nerves.”
She captioned the post: “Am I the asshole for telling my husband he will never be allowed in the delivery room with me again?”
At the start of the Reddit post, the new mother β who lives in Britain β explained that her pregnancy went fairly smoothly and admitted that her husband was extremely supportive.
She wrote, “Me, 28F, and my husband, 32M, (I’ll call him Shawn) recently had our first child, the pregnancy was smooth and Shawn was amazing regardless.”
However, problems arose when it came time for the woman to give birth.
‘The problems started when I went into labour, I was full term, 40 weeks and five days with a big baby weighing 9lb 7oz and the labor was horrible, it started around 2am, I woke up in pain, it was manageable but bad uncomfortable, I was ‘Not to the point where you have to go to hospital because in Britain you have to be at least four centimeters dilated before they admit you and my contractions weren’t close enough or long enough,’ she said.
‘Shawn refused to get out of bed to support me, saying that ‘it’s not a good birth yet and I need my sleep for when the time comes.’
The mother noticed that her husband finally got out of bed after she started screaming in pain.
When they arrived at the hospital, the couple’s problems intensified when Shawn found excuses not to stay in the room with her.
The 28-year-old woman took to Reddit to describe the incident where her husband β who she called Shawn β asked for a “husband stitch.”
‘Shawn was in and out of the room, getting coffee or food, or making phone calls. He left the room probably ten times (once an hour for about 20 minutes at a time), each time with a different excuse,β the mother added.
However, the new parent revealed that the “worst” was yet to come as she explained that her husband had requested her doctor to give her a “husband’s stitch.”
She said, βThe worst comes nextβ¦. I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy, luckily Sean was in the room, I tore quite badly and needed stitches. Shawn said to the male doctor who was stitching me up, βDo you think you can add a few more stitches for me, buddy,β clearly expecting a laugh, but the room fell silent.
“The doctor then said, ‘That could cause a lot of problems for the patient, so no, absolutely not,’ and Shawn went silent.”
The mother admitted that the incident left her feeling extremely embarrassed and uncomfortable, as she found herself deciding she would never allow him into the delivery room again.
She added, βI was mortified, embarrassed, angry and so upset because Shawn knows that for me (I have a history of [sexual assault]) Having a male doctor there would be a very frightening experience for me, and instead of comforting me, he made the situation so much worse.
βI told him that if we have more children in the future, I don’t want him to be there, I want my mother instead. He is angry and has apologized saying it was nerves that made him act this way, but I can’t get over how disappointed I feel. Am I the hole?’
People on the internet flooded the comments section and criticized the man for his behavior as many of them encouraged the new mother to divorce him.
One person said: ‘Never in the delivery room again? Ma’am, he must never come near your vagina again.’
Someone else added, “I can’t believe you would even remotely consider having more kids with him because he’s your second child.”

Another user wrote: ‘Why are you with him? He is not a husband or partner. Start planning a new life without him. There would never be sex with him again.’
‘Wow, he’s a charmer! I’m so sorry for you. He’s a misogynist,β chimed in a fourth.
According to Very good healthThe husband stitch is said to ‘tighten’ the vagina to improve a man’s sexual satisfaction.
It is also often called the ‘daddy stitch’ or ‘vaginal fold’.
Although there is no scientific evidence to support the claim that it makes sex more enjoyable for men, male partners continue to ask their wives to undergo the extra bonding.
In rare cases, some women have even received an extra stitch without consenting.
There are a number of health problems associated with husband stitch, including: bleeding, swelling, infection of the surgical site, pain during sex, and temporary loss of bowel control.
A study from the Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics, reporting in 2024, found that women who received an extra stitch had a slower return to sexual activity than those who had a regular vaginal delivery.
