New Marvel Trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine Teases a Rematch of the X-Men Movie Fans Have Waited 24 Years for
Spoilers follow for Deadpool and Wolverine.
We’re less than a month away Deadpool and Wolverine is hitting theaters – and Marvel has started the countdown to its arrival with the release of a new trailer.
If you’re already rolling your eyes at another teaser filled with footage we’ve seen before, you might want to check this one out. Why? Because the latest 60-second trailer for the Marvel Phase 5 movie actually features a lot of new footage. In fact, I’d consider it a glorified teaser clip, as it mainly teases a rematch between two individuals who first locked their claws in the very first live-action. X-Men movie.
Yes, we’re getting another showdown between Hugh Jackman’s adamantium-clawed mutant and Sabretooth (real name Victor Creed), one of Wolverine’s most notable adversaries in Marvel comics. The duo faced off against each other on the big screen in the 2000s X Menthe first installment in Fox’s now defunct film franchise (read our X Men movies in the guide for more details), in which Wolverine defeated his arch-enemy in the final act of the film. 24 years after that battle, we get another confrontation between the two, albeit one that will be much more violent – Deadpool 3 gets an R-rating – then their duel in the first live-action X Men movie.
As if that wasn’t enough, the actor who played Sabretooth in that film – Tyler Mane – will reprise his role as the animalistic antagonist of Jackman’s equally rampaging mutant. We don’t just get a repeat of the duo’s fight from the beginning X-Men movie, so – we’re getting one that fans (Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) or otherwise) have been waiting almost 25 years for. Color me excited.
An MCU movie leak that turned out to be true

Okay, if you’ve been watching very closely Deadpool and Wolverine‘s development, you might have known that it was all but confirmed that Sabretooth would be part of the film’s expanded cast. Several X/Twitter fan accounts, including the social media channel X-Men Updates, posted a number of leaked images (see above) in December 2023 that revealed Mane would be returning as Sabretooth. For those individuals, this grand reveal won’t be as surprising as it would be for those who only learned about his return with this teaser.
Still, it’s satisfying to see Mane back as one of Wolverine’s greatest foes. And hey, if Marvel decided to reveal Sabretooth’s return before the film’s July 26th release, that means they’ll have to hold back some even bigger and/or crowd-pleasing cameos for the film. Well, hopefully the ones I haven’t picked out, or speculated on, from the other two main trailers – you can read my first one Deadpool and Wolverine trailer overview for more information about that, or another article where I’ve pointed out the top six easter eggs Deadpool and Wolverine‘s second trailer. As for potential character cameos I missed, Marvel fans are convinced they’ve spotted two major character Easter eggs in Deadpool 3‘s first official trailer too.
We’ll see if anyone was right in their assumptions when the film hits theaters next month. In the meantime, go watch the 2000s X Men movie now on Disney Plus, no matter where you live. Or see which X-Men movies made it into my top superhero movies of all time.
