New map shows best places to survive a zombie apocalypse like in The Last of Us

HBO’s The Last of Us may be over for the season, but the idea of ​​a zombie apocalypse still lives on everyone’s mind – especially if they made it out alive.

A new map could be the saving grace of survival, showing the US’s best-prepared states — California would be a deadly trap, but Wyoming appears to be a safe haven.

Researchers used more than 1,000 Google searches to create the map that shows populated states like New York and Texas should be avoided, while mountainous states like North Dakota and Montana are better places to hide.

The idea of ​​a zombie apocalypse is still science fiction, but the map echoes parts of The Last of Us, like Boston was overrun with mold-infected people and the clickers barely touched the Midwestern states.

California is the least prepared and mostly for people who live near densely populated places like San Francisco or Los Angeles.

In addition to places to avoid, the company found that Texas, Pennsylvania and Florida are among the worst locations in the event of a zombie invasion.

Texas has a population of approximately 28 million, Florida is 21 million, and Pennsylvania has a population of approximately 13 million.

However, California has the most – over 40 million people.

This information is consistent with a 2015 study conducted by a team of Cornell University researchers who focused on a fictitious zombie outbreak as an approach to disease modeling.

Cities would fall quickly, but it would take weeks for zombies to invade less densely populated areas and months to reach the northern mountain time zone, the team shared in a press release.

“If you somehow find yourself in the middle of a fictional zombie outbreak and want to survive as long as possible, run to the northern Rockies.”

Much of America would have fallen after four weeks, but it would take a “very long time” for zombies to reach the remotest corners of the country.
