The iPhone 16 is expected to arrive in about a month, and leaks surrounding Apple’s 2024 flagship phone are starting to pile up, including new information about the battery capacities of the Pro and Pro Max models.
According to a well-known tipster Directly digital (through MacRumors), the iPhone 16 Pro gets a 3,577 mAh battery, while the battery in the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max gets a 4,676 mAh capacity.
To put those numbers in context, the iPhone 15 Pro has a 3,274mAh battery capacity, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 4,422mAh capacity. Both models reportedly get bigger batteries this year, but the jump is bigger with the Pro model.
We’ve heard in a previous leak that the iPhone 16 Pro Max would come with a 4,676mAh capacity, though an earlier rumor had pegged the iPhone 16 Pro’s capacity at 3,355mAh. So this latest source suggests the size increase will be more significant.
Better battery life?
Of course, it’s entirely possible that battery capacities have changed as Apple developed the phones and refined the design, which could explain why some of the rumors we’ve seen so far have listed different numbers.
It’s also hard to say how these increased battery capacities will affect battery life. Both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are said to get larger screens this year, up to 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches respectively, which could skew the calculations.
As our iPhone 15 Pro review and iPhone 15 Pro Max review will tell you, the current models can last about a day (or a bit longer) of general use. It seems that the new editions will still need to be charged overnight most of the time.
Apple hasn’t announced a launch event for September yet, but that’s the month it usually unveils new iPhones. The same event should also see the unveiling of the Apple Watch 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 3.
