Nettie’s has sparked a furious debate after revealing that they are banning children under 10 from dining.
Nettie’s Italian restaurant, located in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, has caused a stir on social media
In a Facebook post, a staff member revealed that the ban would start on March 8, claiming their decision was due to rowdy kids causing safety issues.
‘It has been extremely challenging accommodating the children at Nettie’s. Between the noise levels, the lack of space for high chairs, the mess cleanup, and the liability of children running around the restaurant, we have decided it is time to take control of the situation,” the post read.
‘This was not a decision taken lightly, but some recent events have pushed us to implement this new policy. As of March 8, the day we return from our winter vacation, we will no longer allow children under the age of 10 to dine in the restaurant.
We know this is going to upset some of you, especially those with very well behaved children, but we believe this is the right decision to move our business forward. Thank you for understanding.’
The announcement caused a great reaction from many diners.
Social media users claimed his new policy was “disgusting”, while others claimed it was a “fatal business decision”.
‘Since you forgot – we were all children once. Why not ask unsupervising parents to leave instead of punishing a whole class of customers?’ said a diner.
‘A fatal business decision. As evidenced by his deletion of comments on the anti-human post.
Others added that they would no longer visit the restaurant for a pasta dish due to the new rule.
‘This will not work well for you. I liked your restaurant. I never brought my 8 year old. But every time I’m there, the children are well behaved. I enjoyed seeing the children there with their parents. I will no longer go to your establishment’, wrote a user of social networks.
“Good luck staying open with only mad knows (sic) nothing kid haters to support your business,” another user said.
Despite growing calls for more strict child-free rules to be enacted, the restaurant’s advert has come under heavy criticism.
Some diners even took to Yelp to leave the Italian restaurant a bad review based on their new policy.
Leaving a one star review, one person wrote: ‘The restaurant is starting a new policy of banning children under 10 in March. Very demanding.
And while many restaurant-goers had negative thoughts about the new rule, others praised Nettie’s for enacting the policy.
One diner said it was a “fantastic” idea, while others said they’d make the trip to New Jersey just for an adults-only dining experience.
‘Fantastic idea… having worked in the industry since I was 14 years old, I’ve never seen anything like what I’ve seen in the recent past. Kids are out of control and most parents don’t realize it. The disregard for manners and common decency is unreal. I worked at FH and was disgusted by the behavior. Good on you for taking a stand. wrote a diner.
“I think it’s a good policy. And for the record, I have kids, I’ve grown up now, and I’m still okay with this,” another social media user added.
Many diners said they “agree” with the restaurant and “support it.”
One user wrote: “To all of you who say you should ‘berate’ parents and have them tell their kids to behave, it’s not the responsibility of a restaurant worker to have to tell an adult how to parent.”
And while many restaurant-goers had negative thoughts about the new rule, others praised Nettie’s for enacting the policy.
Another diner added: “Clearly most of this thread hasn’t stumbled upon a child who jumped from under a table and then dropped a 400° plate fresh out of the oven on said child.” Uncontrolled children are a danger to everyone. Order take out and let them terrorize your own home.
‘Because of your new policy on children, I intend to fly to New Jersey to eat at your restaurant. Well done,’ someone else said.
It is not the first time that someone has made their position on children clear.
Former Love Island star Olivia Atwood, 31, revealed that she believed children should be banned from all weddings.
In a clip on the Private Parts podcast, hosted by Jamie Laing, she revealed that she would not allow children at her wedding to her 29-year-old fiancé, Bradley Deck.
“The children at the wedding, for me, is absolutely unacceptable. Even if I had kids of my own, I wouldn’t invite them,” she said.
The star admitted that even though she doesn’t have children and doesn’t understand close love and bonding, she still doesn’t think children should attend weddings.
His views angered many listeners, as many said that a wedding should be filled with everyone you love, while others claimed that they were parents and had no interest in bringing children to weddings.
