New Jersey infant killed, parents injured in apparent attack by family dog, police say

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — A baby was killed and the child’s parents were injured in an apparent attack by a dog at a New Jersey home last weekend, authorities said.

Middlesex County prosecutors and the Woodbridge Police Department said officers responded to the Woodbridge Township home shortly before 6:30 a.m. Saturday for a report of an unresponsive baby believed to have been attacked by the family dog.

Authorities said officers discovered the mother and child had “suffered serious injuries from the dog.” The child was pronounced dead at the scene. The father and mother were taken to hospital for treatment.

The names of the victims were not immediately released and officials did not clarify the animal’s current status. Authorities described the investigation as “active and ongoing” and asked anyone with information to call Woodbridge police and prosecutors.
