Lionel Messi has got off to an interesting start in his first few days as a South Florida resident.

Messi, who is about to be unveiled as an Inter Miami player, was given a police escort in his new hometown when his vehicle drove straight through a red light.

The Argentinian’s car ended up in a busy intersection, where the car was lucky not to be hit by several cars passing through.

This vehicle turned left as police continued to track it. It is not clear whether Messi was driving the vehicle or not, but it was known that he was in it.

Argentinian TV channel TyC Sports captured the moment as the hype surrounding Messi’s arrival continued to grow.

Messi will join Inter Miami months after leading Argentina to a third World Cup title

Inter Miami have technically not yet signed or revealed Messi as a player for the club, but he will be revealed this Sunday and make his debut on July 21 against Cruz Azul in the MLS/Liga MX competition: the Leagues Cup.

Messi is already getting used to his surroundings and was spotted at the popular supermarket chain Publix on Thursday evening.

His arrival has also led to companies producing products designed specifically for or inspired by him – including the Hard Rock Cafe, which unveiled the “Made for You by Leo Messi” meal featuring a chicken sandwich. Messi had already launched a burger in collaboration with the music-themed restaurant.

The Argentine left French giants Paris Saint-Germain after a season in which he underperformed – often drawing jeers and boos from the PSG faithful.

But Messi is likely to feel right at home in Miami, where he already owned a property before moving to Inter. He will also reportedly be joined by former Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba at Inter Miami.
