New release date and platforms for the Indiana Jones game
MachineGames hasn’t confirmed when we’ll get our hands on the new Indiana Jones game, but we expect it to be a few more years.
In an interview as part of GameSpot’s Play For All (opens in new tab) event in June 2021, Bethesda’s senior vice president of global marketing and communications, Pete Hines, stated that the game was still in the “very, very, very early stages of development”, suggesting it was still a few years after its release. release.
Given Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax Media, it’s likely we’ll see the title appear on PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S (with PS5 less certain), but platforms are yet to be confirmed.

Latest trailer
Bethesda shared (opens in new tab) a teaser trailer posted on Twitter in January 2021 that officially announced the new Indiana Jones, though it had more easter eggs than game details. The trailer slides over a desk full of books, a camera, and papers before settling on Dr. Jones lands. It’s not much, but it’s enough to get us excited. There also seem to be plenty of clues lurking.
More trailers
While the teaser trailer is the only offering so far, MachineGames will almost certainly release more teasers in the future. If you want to keep up to date with new developments in Indiana Jones, keep an eye on the official Bethesda Twitter page (opens in new tab).
New Indiana Jones game story and setting
As it stands, we’ve got a limited amount to go when it comes to figuring out exactly what the game’s story will be. However, considering it’s an Indiana Jones game, it seems likely we can expect an exhilarating, meaty adventure filled with brash heroism and relics of antiquity.
However, the teaser trailer offers some useful tidbits that an enterprising viewer could use to piece together some parts of the plot. Considering the trailer shows a map of the Vatican City and also writes that says, in part, “I’m arriving in Rome,” it looks like we’re seeing Dr. Jones on an adventure in Rome.
Given that Indy’s plane ticket dates back to 1937, it’s possible our hero will have to deal with the machinations of Italy’s rising fascist party as Europe teeters on the brink of World War II. This also means that the game takes place (at least in part) a year after the first Indiana Jones movie: Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The books of “Ancient Circles,” “Forbidden Stones,” and “Myths that Made Us” suggest that the adventure will, in typical Indiana Jones fashion, feature occult myths and ancient artifacts with supernatural powers.
