Newly released footage shows the aftermath and brutal injuries an ESPN broadcaster suffered after being thrown from his RV on a California highway.
ESPN sportscaster Cordell Patrick and his wife were driving on Highway 14 from Newhall to their home in Valencia on Monday when the accident happened.
Patrick later explained, while lying in a hospital bed, that the couple was only 10 minutes away from their home when he unbuckled his seat belt to go to the toilet.
As he stood, he noticed that his wife had fallen asleep and that the RV was going the wrong way.
By the time Patrick ran to grab the steering wheel, the camper hit an oncoming divider, sending the sportscaster out a window into the carpool lane on the southbound lane outside Newhall.

Smithey later told CBS, “She fell asleep and then hit the center divider, I didn’t even see the guy get out of the vehicle.
‘He basically knew everything that happened and he kept asking about his wife. It was pretty cool to see him kind of there.”
“He said, is she okay? I said yes, she’s just panicking.’
Patrick said he was stunned by what he saw after people sent him videos of him falling on the highway as heavy traffic raced by.
“People started sending me the video of me being thrown out of the RV. Then I got down on my knees and thanked God because I wouldn’t live anymore,” he said.
