New England Patriots star Christian Barmore has been diagnosed with blood clots after being treated at a Massachusetts hospital.
There is no timetable yet for Barmore’s return, with the NFL season just six weeks away.
“Christian Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots this past weekend,” the Patriots announced Sunday, on Barmore’s 25th birthday.
“He was treated appropriately by the physicians at Mass General Brigham, who tested, evaluated and treated Christian. Our primary concern at this time is Christian’s health and well-being.
“Fortunately, Mass General Brigham provides some of the best health care in the world. While there is no current schedule for his return, we know Christian is receiving great care and we look forward to his full recovery.”

Barmore’s agent, Nicole Lynn, also released a statement saying, “I would be remiss if I didn’t thank Patriots coach Jim Whalen for his absolute dedication and care over the past few days.
‘Without Jim’s perseverance and expertise, the day could have turned out very differently.’
Barmore enters his fourth season in the NFL after signing a four-year, $84 million contract extension with New England in April, making him one of the league’s 10 highest-paid defensive tackles.
Barmore was selected in the second round of the 2021 draft by the Patriots out of Alabama and has recorded 133 tackles, 12.5 sacks and 32 quarterback hits in 44 games, including 11 as a starter.
