- You can now tax your vehicle even if you have lost the V5C and the reminder letter
The DVLA has launched a new service to make taxing a car easier.
For the first time, the DVLA has linked its online registration service to its online licensing service.
This allows motorists to tax their vehicle even if they do not have their V5C (logbook) and motor vehicle tax reminder letter (V11).
In the past, drivers who lost their logbook or tax reminder letter would get headaches when trying to tax their vehicle.
DVLA has announced a new service update that will allow motorists to tax their vehicle even if they have lost their V5C (log book) and their motor tax reminder letter (V11)
To make life easier for drivers, those who have lost important documents can now apply for a new V5C and tax their vehicle at the same time, as part of a new service that allows motorists to tax their vehicle even if they don’t have these documents to hand .
Before the update, customers who lost these documents had to wait up to five days for a replacement V5C to arrive, or call the DVLA Contact Center to charge their vehicle.
The latest update from the DVLA – which links the online registration service to the online licensing service – should make it easier to tax a car.
Prior to the update, customers who lost these documents had to wait up to 5 days for a replacement V5C to arrive, or call the DVLA Contact Center to charge their vehicle.
Julie Lennard, CEO of DVLA, said: “We are always looking at ways to improve our digital services to provide greater convenience to motorists.
“This latest improvement allows customers who have lost or misplaced their V5C to quickly and easily obtain a replacement and tax their vehicle.”
This new system follows on from the DVLA’s launch of its Driver and Vehicle Account in 2023, which will allow motorists to view and manage their driver and vehicle data in one place.
The driver and vehicle account allows people to use digital services, including receiving reminders via text message or email or renewing a driver’s license with photo card and viewing MOT messages.
How does the new online tax registration work?
Motorists should visit the DVLA website.
Motorists who have lost both their V5C and V11 documents can charge their vehicle with the improved one provided they are the registered keeper and there are no changes to the keeper details (name or address).
Motorists will have to apply for a new V5C to charge their vehicle through the service.
Once they file, they can file taxes immediately and don’t have to wait for the V5C to arrive in the mail.
