New Chelsea starlet Renato Veiga calls for calm after poor start to pre-season as he says he is ‘very happy’ to have joined ‘the biggest club in England’
Chelsea’s latest signing Renato Veiga says patience is needed after their difficult start to pre-season, with Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Celtic having left some supporters concerned.
Veiga, 20, is one of the few youngsters who is not yet sure whether he will leave on loan.
Manager Enzo Maresca wants to use his tour of the United States to see which youth players can handle playing in his first team.
A draw against Wrexham and a defeat to Celtic mean Maresca is still waiting for his first win as Chelsea manager, but Veiga says there is no reason to panic.
“In every football match you want to win,” he said. “Chelsea must win every match. But we are in preparation.

“The most important thing is the process, the connection between each other. When the time comes (to play the first Premier League match against Manchester City) on August 18, that is the moment when it counts and we must win for sure.”
On why he left Basel for Chelsea for £12million, Veiga said: ‘How can you say no to Chelsea?
‘For me they are the biggest club in England. They have a very ambitious project, not only for the present but also for the future.
‘Right now, the present is the most important thing and I’m very happy to be here.’

Asked if he expects to be loaned out, he said: ‘I signed for Chelsea, I’m very happy to be here and I enjoy every day.
“We’ll see at the end of pre-season or after the market closes (what happens). I’m enjoying my time here. I feel the confidence of the manager and my colleagues. I just want to do my best and we’ll see of course.”
