Neve Campbell is ‘so excited’ to reprise Sidney Prescott role in next Scream film… after dropping out of horror franchise over pay dispute

Neve Campbell is “so excited” to return as Sidney Prescott in the upcoming seventh film in the Scream franchise.

The 50-year-old actress made her debut as the character in the 1996 slasher film Wes Craven, and she reprized the role in four of the sequels.

However, the artist remained absent from the sixth feature film in the franchise after negotiations over her salary fell through.

Campbell recently spoke with PEOPLE and said she was dismayed at having to work on the most recently released Scream film, which debuted last year.

“Those films have been such a big part of my life and it means so much to me, and I was sad to miss the last one, to not be a part of it,” she said.

However, the Twisted Metal actress stated that she was happy that she was able to come to an agreement with the producers of the new film and reprise her role.

‘I was very grateful that they came back to me in a respectful way. I think this means a lot for women and for society. “I’m grateful to be able to step into Sidney’s shoes again and tell her story,” she said.

Campbell then talked about the impact Prescott had on longtime fans of the slasher franchise.

“I meet a lot of fans who say her strength has helped them through tough times, and that it means more to some people than I could ever imagine,” she said.

Development of the upcoming seventh film in the Scream franchise was revealed to the public in 2023, when Scream VI directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet expressed hope that the series would continue in the future.

The filmmakers spoke The Hollywood Reporter in March last year and stated that they would ‘never give up’ on having Campbell return to the series.

Bettinelli-Olpin added, “We would love to make another film with her, and we’re not giving up.”

The pair eventually stepped away from the project, with Christopher Landon signing on to direct the film last August.
