Ben Simmons had a moment to forget Thursday night in Brooklyn after doing a layup, much to the delight of some on social media.
The Australian is often criticized by former players and the Twitterverse for his game, and lately, the lack of it.
During the first quarter of Nets’ matchup vs. Dallas, Simmons seemed to be caught in two minds, unable to quickly decipher between a finger roll and a floater.

The result was an embarrassing bubble that naturally caught the attention of social media users.
One user wrote on Twitter: ‘Ben Simmons gets paid millions to airball and make a mistake…I’m just saying I can do that too.’
Meanwhile, most were simply amazed at the rare feat. A Nets fan said: ‘I’m glad I’m patient with Ben Simmons, because he hasn’t played in ages, just made a lay-up. Come on, brother.’

Meanwhile, one fan claimed they were surprised at the failure when they wrote, “Airballing a lay-up is hard, so Ben Simmons is pretty awesome in that regard.”
Another added: “Just watched Ben Simmons airball a lay-up. Can’t make this up’
It was suggested that Simmons might be playing himself outside the door in Brooklyn when they posted, “Ben Simmons’ last shot attempt as a Net.”
Fans continued to ridicule Ben Simmons’ wrong shot during Thursday night’s game
Simmons redeemed himself later in the second quarter by making a right-handed layup from an assist from Kevin Durant.
Fans aren’t the only people who have become frustrated with Simmons recently, as Kyrie Irving reiterated his annoyance during Wednesday’s loss to Milwaukee.
The one-time NBA champion could hear “shoot it Ben” yell during the third quarter, while Simmons hesitated to press the key before turning back to Kevin Durant.
The former LSU star was once considered the heir to Magic Johnson in his earlier years
But after the Nets’ humble loss to the Bucks, Irving told reporters to fire the embattled Australian.
“You keep coming in here and asking me how Ben is?” Irving said after the game.
He hasn’t played in two years. Give him a chance. We stay with him… you stay with him. But we’re here to give him positive acknowledgments and just let him loose.
Net guard Kyrie Irving was annoyed both during the match and on the podium after the match
“While he’s hooping and getting back in, we’re really going to have to learn as a team how to win as a group.
“It’s not an individual’s job to go out and be Superman. He doesn’t have to. There’s no such thing, it’s made up anyway.’
Simmons and the Nets are currently trying to prevent a 1-4 start to the season against Luka Doncic and the 1-2 Mavericks.
