Netherlands camp is rocked by row between Wout Weghorst and Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber… with Ronald Koeman having to separate the pair before former Man United striker storms off

Former Manchester United star Wout Weghorst left the field after being involved in a heated confrontation with Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber during Netherlands training.

The duo is currently playing with the Dutch team in the Nations League matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany. On Saturday, Ronald Koeman’s team defeated the former 5-2.

Both players ended up on the bench in the victory, with Weghorst scoring a goal in the final phase, continuing his impressive run for the Dutch national team.

However, on Sunday the attacker was angry after a foul by Timber, as the Netherlands prepared for the home game against Germany on Tuesday.

The Arsenal player hit Weghorst on the ankle as they tried to fight for the ball, leaving the striker lying on the ground in pain.

He was furious at the challenge and confronted Timber, forcing Koeman to intervene and calm the pair down.

However, Weghorst could not hide his frustrations and later brought up the incident again, with Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke attempting to calm the 32-year-old player down.

However, Weghorst remained furious and was later seen leaving the training ground, then cycling away while on his phone.

Timber is back in the Dutch squad for the first time in over a year, after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The metro reported that Koeman tried to act as a peacemaker, saying: ‘I said something to you, I said something to them.’

Weghorst continued to express his frustration, to which Koeman replied: ‘And now it’s over!’.

Koeman later confirmed that Weghorst, who was among the goalscorers against Bosnia, had not suffered an injury.

The striker was loaned to Manchester United by Burnley in 2023 before moving to Ajax last month after spending the 2023-24 season with Hoffenheim.

In total, Weghorst has scored 13 goals in 40 games for the Netherlands since his international debut in 2018.
