There’s good news for fans of William Gibson’s fictional AI Neuromancer And Wednesday, the ongoing tales of Charles Addams’ creepy and crazy family. The already impressive cast of both shows just announced some equally impressive new additions.
First up is BAFTA nominee Callum Turner from Masters of the air And The boys in the boat will appear Neuromancer. Based on Gibson’s book of the same name, it is a 10-part Apple TV Plus series that follows a mostly broken top hacker named Case (Turner). Case finds himself drawn into a tangled web of electronic espionage and corporate deception with suitably exciting results, and the source novel won stacks of literary awards and helped define what would become known as cyberpunk.
I have high hopes for this one. I loved Gibson’s books, but despite Keanu Reeve’s efforts Johnny mnemonic, which was based on one of Gibson’s short stories, it proved difficult to adapt well. This new series comes from the same production company as Foundation, so the omens are very good indeed.
See you next Wednesday
Every new casting announcement for Wednesday season two is exciting, and fresh off the reveal that Steve Buscemi would appear in the Netflix show’s second season, we have another big name: Thandiwe Newton. Best known for her Emmy-winning role in WestwordNewton was also great in films like Crash, Lover And The Pursuit of Happiness.
The casting news comes via Variety, which has the exclusive – but unfortunately Variety’s sources don’t know any details yet. And that applies more broadly to season two. If Variety says: “Few details are available about the new season of Wednesday, aside from the fact that Jenna Ortega will return as the titular Addams Family daughter going through her teenage years.” The show is one of Netflix’s biggest hits ever and has earned a whopping twelve Emmy nominations, winning four of them — so you understand why Netflix manages to attract such great talent for the second season.
Both Neuromancer and season two of Wednesday are expected to stream this year, although there is no news yet on a streaming date for either show.
