Netflix has released yet another new trailer (see below) for the upcoming German sci-fi thriller called The signal, giving us a tantalizing glimpse of what to expect from this highly anticipated psychological thriller.
What we know about so far The signal is that it follows the story of a female astronaut named Paula (Peri Baumeister). After spending months in space aboard the ISS (International Space Station), she is about to be reunited with her family.
However, her plane that flies her over to meet them disappears without a trace. Her husband Sven (Florian David Fitz) and daughter Charlie (Yuna Bennett) must pick up the pieces of what happened, follow clues and uncover the truth of what Paula found in space. But the more they discover, the more dangerous it becomes for them.
What happened to Paula’s plane? What did she find during her mission? Will it be aliens or more of a story of political intrigue? (We’re keeping our fingers crossed for the former). We’ve only seen a few minutes of clips from The signal so far and we already have a lot of questions, which bodes well for the new show.
The signal is a limited series with four 60-minute episodes that will release on Netflix, the world’s top streaming service, on March 7, 2024. Put this one at the top of your must-watch list.
The emotional side of science fiction
We have high expectations for it The signal. First of all, it looks breathtaking. Some of the beautiful cinematic shots of space are fascinating and somewhat reminiscent The vastness (one of the best science fiction shows ever made). We’re also already incredibly interested in the mystery of the show and whether Paula has discovered alien life in space – is that “the signal” the show is named after?
But we’re also looking forward to the deeper, more thoughtful moments teased in the trailer. We love sci-fi stories that get the space shots, bold themes, and action right, while still keeping a lot of heart and emotion at their core.
It resembles The signal will do a good job exploring the dilemma between settling for a life on Earth spent with the people you love, and choosing a life explored among the stars. Who knows what else the series will entail, but it reminds us of similar stories that explore the tug-of-war of space exploration and bettering humanity while trying to stay connected to life on Earth, like Interstellar or even Advertisement Astra.
Even if The Signal doesn’t live up to our high expectations, it’s just one of many new TV series coming to Netflix in the coming months. If you’re looking for another sci-fi hit, you might be interested in an adaptation of Liu Cixin’s incredibly popular sci-fi book series. 3 Body Problem will also be released on Netflix in March with some of the creators behind Game of Thrones at the helm.
The streaming service also unveiled its Korean slate of TV series and movies coming our way this week in 2024, including the second seasons of both Squid Game and Hellbound.
