Netflix’s next rival unmasked as North Korea to air state TV across the world by autumn – complete with peppy military rallies, despot-devoted newsreaders and anti-West propaganda

North Korea is set to launch a new streaming service that will broadcast Kim Jong-un’s state television around the world.

Shiwani TV is expected to launch this fall and will live stream Korean Central Television and its affiliated radio station. The Telegraph reported.

The platform offers viewers access to the dictatorship’s best soap operas, dramas, sitcoms and anti-Western propaganda for just £16 per month.

At least 50 people have already asked to be notified when registration opens, a spokesperson revealed, noting that those interested are “mainly” from Britain, the US, Poland, Japan and South Korea.

Subscribers will be able to enjoy the state-run TV channel, which broadcasts military parades, shows a steady stream of missiles and highlights messages from despot-dedicated newsreaders.

Shiwani TV will not pay fees to North Korea and have no contractual agreements with the communist nation, the channel’s spokesman added.

The new platform is seen as the idea of Chollima Front, a small Polish organization that claims to understand North Korea and its culture.

Chollima Front and its approximately twelve members want to make “verified information about the country available in the public space,” the newspaper said.

In addition to news broadcasts that feature bad headlines about all countries not belonging to North Korea, subscribers have access to a variety of state-sanctioned programs.

One of the expected offerings is Our Neighbors, a sitcom set in a Pyongyang apartment and portraying the message that people loyal to the regime will be rewarded with a fashionable wardrobe and stylish home appliances.

Other offerings include soap operas that chronicle the stories of heroic soldiers and workers devoted to the Communist Party.

The channel will offer newscasts from anchor Ri Chun-Hee, who is known for her passionate and emotional commentary.

Sports fans can also sample ‘censored footage’ of world-famous events, such as the Wimbledon Championship, just months after they took place.

The North Korean embassy in Warsaw reportedly supports the plan to launch the service later this year.

Shiwani TV will stream globally, including in the US and South Korea, where it could reportedly “violate national security laws” and “could be accessed illegally.”

A spokesperson for the channel claimed that the service “operates within the laws of Poland, Canada and Germany” and also “respects certain relevant North Korean laws.”

The Polish Embassy in the US is aware of the upcoming launch, said Radio-free Asiaand has warned the ‘appropriate parties’.
