Netflix’s new mind-bending sci-fi series 3 Body Problem will give you virtual reality nightmares
Netflix has released the first clip for its new mind-bending TV show 3 Body problemand it may make you reconsider buying a virtual reality (VR) headset.
Based on the critically acclaimed science fiction novel by Liu Cixin The three-body problemIt looks like the upcoming Netflix series will be the next must-see TV show to debut on the world’s best streaming service. And after the first teaser trailer was revealed on Netflix Tudum 2023, it’s high time we find out more about it before its launch in early 2024.
Before we get into what it’s about and who’s involved in the production, you’ll want to take a look 3 Body problem‘s first official clip. But be warned: if you’re considering purchasing a VR headset during this year’s Black Friday sale, you might be put off by what you see.
Yes, we don’t want to experiment with VR if there’s a chance that its conscious programming – or rather, a real warrior with an apparent ax to grind – will come at us unexpectedly, blade drawn, intent on killing us. You can keep your Meta Oculus (mentioned in the teaser) and Quest Pro headsets, as well as your Apple Vision Pro tech, even if they aren’t as futuristic or deadly as 3 Body problem‘s surreal looking VR device is.
Okay, what then? 3 Body problem about? For the uninitiated, Netflix has provided some details about its mind-bending, reality-altering and time-traveling plot. The show’s logline reads: ‘A young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China resonates across space and time to this day. When the laws of nature inexplicably crumble before their eyes, a tight-knit group of brilliant scientists join forces with a fearless detective to confront the greatest threat in human history.”

3 Body problem is the latest TV project from David Benioff and DB Weiss. here the Game of Thrones showrunners have traded bloody fantasy for mind-boggling science fiction with their new Netflix show, so no matter what you thought Game of Thrones‘ divisive ending, this new series packs a serious creative punch.
As for the cast, the clip above confirms that we’ll see Game of Thrones alumnus John Bradley plays a character who we believe is a scientist named John Rooney. He is joined on the show’s stacked roster by a colleague Thrones With Liam Cunningham and Jonathan Pryce. Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange 2), Jovan Adepo (Jack Ryan), Rosalind Chao (The OC), Eiza González (Godzilla vs. Kong), Saamer Usmani (Succession), and Jess Hong (Inked) are also part of the cast.
Joining Weiss and Benioff on the development team is co-writer and fellow executive producer Alexander Woo (Real blood). There are also some great actors who are part of it 3 Body problem‘s executive production team, including none other than Brad Pitt and Rosamund Pike (The Wheel of Time). Rian Johnson (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Knives out) is also among the producers.
Of course, we don’t know whether that is the case 3 Body problem will be as successful as Netflix hopes until it is released. We’re hoping it’ll be one of our top Netflix shows early next year, but there are no guarantees, especially if TV lovers are still feeling burned by Weiss and Benioff’s handling of Game of Thrones‘last season. Until then, the jury is out – but 3 Body problem it looks like it’s going to be a wild ride.
Initially scheduled to debut in January 2024, 3 Body problem will now launch on Netflix on March 21, 2024.
