We’ve been waiting for this for centuries: Berlinthe Money theft prequel series featuring one of the best characters is coming to Netflix on December 29th and the trailer has just dropped. As you can see, it looks like everything we could want from a new Netflix show and we tend to stay home on New Year’s Eve to enjoy it.
If you thought it was original Money theft was daring, this takes things to a whole new level. This time, our anti-hero sets up a streaming company and starts raising prices until… I’m kidding! No one is that bad! The heist this time involves a $44 million theft from one of Paris’ top auction houses.
You know what that means: a team of mismatched, highly skilled and highly dangerous criminals, only a few of whom will make it to the end. Pedro Alonso’s Berlin will clearly make it, because he is participating Money theft. But everything else is up for grabs.
Who is Berlin?
Pedro Alonso’s character’s real name is Andrés de Fonollosa, and he is the greatest thief in Europe. A wise, safe jewel thief who brightened five entire series of the original Money theft and who was one of the most popular characters among the show’s viewers. Alonso brings tremendous warmth and sympathy to someone who is a terrible human being at heart, and it’s an inspired choice to focus on him for the prequel.
But Berlin may not be the only sight we see again. When announcing Berlin, series creator Álex Pina said there are “lots of possibilities” for spinoffs… “I think almost every character from Money theft has a duality that we would like to see in a spin-off.” So if enough of us look at Berlin, this could be the beginning of the MHCU – that is, the Money theft cinematic universe. The question is whether Pina will have time to make more: he has signed a multi-show deal with Netflix, which includes very different shows, including one inspired by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Berlin premieres on Netflix on December 29.
