The new Kevin Hart heist film Lift is coming to Netflix this month (January 2024). We were already quite interested in it after seeing the first trailer, and now Netflix has released a new trailer that ramps up the excitement even further. It seems like it has everything you'd want to see in a heist movie: great action and stunning set pieces, of course, but also the all-important motley crew of mismatched, funny criminals to make the high-profile bits funny.
The new trailer shows off more of the stellar cast, including some big names: the cast list includes Kevin Hart, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D'Onofrio, Úrsula Corberó, Billy Magnussen, Viveik Kalra, Yun Jee Kim, Jacob Batalon, Jean Reno and Sam Worthington.
Hart is Cyrus, the brains of the operation, while D'Onofrio apparently plays a master of disguise, which seems to be a pretty good joke considering D'Onofrio is perhaps the most uniquely recognizable man in the world. Meanwhile, Jean Reno is a terrorist mastermind and Gugu Mbatha-Raw is the Interpol agent trying to take him down.
Why you want to get into this elevator
The nice thing about heist movies is that we've seen (and played a lot of) a lot of them. GTA), so for a movie to stand out, it has to do something different. Logan Luck did that by amping up the comedy (if you haven't seen it yet, you should: it's an absolute hoot with Daniel Craig playing against type and clearly having the time of his life) and Lifting does this by placing the raid in the air. No Ocean's Eleven Underground vault here: it's in an airplane 40,000 feet above the ground. There's something else: in Lifting The robbery does not take place to line people's pockets, but to prevent a terrorist attack. It's all a very recent Fast-and-Furious movie, which makes sense since the director has previous experience there.
F Gary Gray started making music videos for the likes of Ice Cube and Dr. Dre before turning his talents into films, including his debut, Fridaythe 2003 Italian work remake and the debaucherous Straight from Compton. But he also took on 2017 The fate of the enragedone of the 25 highest-grossing films of all time.
The reviews aren't in yet, so we don't know if Lifting will rise or will have difficulty getting off the ground. But if this movie is as fun as the trailer suggests, it could be the perfect winter escape.
Lift will join the new Netflix films from January 12, 2024.
