Netflix has revealed the official title for Knives out 3 – and fans are already summoning their inner sleuth to try to figure out what it means.
Shade dropped by the world’s top streaming service today (May 24), the new title of the upcoming Netflix movie Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. The whodunit’s new name was also revealed via an X/Twitter post from Rian Johnson, who directed the first two films in the series. Knives out franchise. The tweet confirmed that too Wake up, dead man will be released on Netflix sometime in 2025.

The video opens with a voice-over from eccentric detective Benoit Blanc, who was played by Daniel Craig in the first two episodes. Knives out movies. In it – and in typically dramatic fashion – he says: “At first the knives came out. And look! The glass was shattered… but my most dangerous case yet is about to be revealed” before the animated footage . confirms the film’s official title and that it will be one of the new Netflix films of 2025.
No other details have been made public Wake up, dead man, apart from confirming – as if it was needed – that Craig will return for his third outing as Blanc in the film’s lead role. The only additional clue Netflix gives about this Knives out 3 was that Blanc would return for “his most dangerous case yet”. Even with that ominous tease, we can expect more of the same comedy-laced murder mystery plot threads and subversive storytelling from Johnson, Craig and company.
Johnson is also back as writer, director and one of probably many producers of Wake Up Dead Man. Ram Bergman, a frequent executive production collaborator with Johnson, has worked with Johnson since his feature film debut in 2005. Stone.
We’re about to put the third one into production, and I’m super excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it’s going.May 24, 2024
In further commentary on X/Twitter (see above), Johnson revealed that principal photography would begin Knives out 3. Since its predecessor was shot in just 78 days (between late June and mid-September 2021), it is possible that Wake up, dead man could be filmed at a similarly fast pace. If so, we can even see it Knives out 3 will make its way to Netflix in mid-2025.
Knives out 3 will be the second – and currently final – entry in the franchise to debut exclusively on Netflix. The first film, from 2019 Knives outwas released exclusively in theaters, but Netflix confirmed it had picked up the rights to two films Knives out sequels in April 2021. Unless the streaming titan orders more episodes – it would be foolish not to, considering Glass onion (one of the best Netflix movies, FYI) was one of the most popular movies on the service at the end of 2022 — this could be the last time we see Benoit Blanc on the platform.
As for the actual title of the movie’s plot, internet sleuths are already having a field day with what it could mean. Indeed, a ResetEra thread is full of fans discussing the new name, with comments ranging from the obvious – it’s about a dead man who apparently comes back to life (Blanc himself?) – to the absurd nature of who should act as part of the eclectic supporting cast (no, I’m not kidding, someone says facetiously they want Dante from the Devil can cry video game series to appear).
