In an interview with Variety marking the film’s 50th anniversary, Towne said: “The only thing I’ll probably say is yes, all the episodes were written for Netflix. Working with a force of nature like David Fincher is (while) sometimes humbling, never less than enlightening.”
We don’t know much about the plot yet, but he added: “When David and I first started talking, we agreed that we wouldn’t try to emulate (villain) Noah Cross. But we did want to keep in mind that the crimes that history considers monstrous are crimes that will not remain in the past, but insist on visiting the future, and I think we succeeded in that.”

But there is a big question mark hovering over it Chinatown‘s release on the streamer, there’s another Fincher project that could overtake it, and it might also surprise you, as the screen legend is reportedly set to direct a movie. Squid game remake.

Considering that English-language remakes are often met with criticism (looking at you Old boy), it will be interesting to see how fans react to this. According to The playlist, Fincher has been “quietly working” on one Squid game remake and recently hired British writer Dennis Kelly, known for his work on titles like Utopia And Matilda the Musical.
At the time of writing, there is no clear release window for it Chinatown or Squid game – both of which have the potential to lead to the best Netflix shows – so we’ll have to wait for official confirmation on when they’ll arrive.
