Last month we reported the surprising news that a standalone horror (and allegory for late capitalism) The platform got a sequel. And now both the teaser trailer and the release date have been revealed. The second film, The platform 2will be available to stream from early October, well in time for the Halloween season.
The cast of the sequel includes: The night manager‘s Hoik Keuchkerian and Tin & TinMilena Smit, and while the trailer doesn’t give much away about the plot, the film does contain enough shots of the horrific prison and the horrible things that happen there to indicate that this won’t be any happier than the original.
Does The Platform Need a Sequel?
As far as Netflix is concerned, the answer is a resounding yes: the original was the highest-grossing Spanish film in Netflix history and a massive global hit, making it one of the best Netflix movies. Naturally, the streamer wants to come back for a second helping. Here’s what it has to say about the second helping:
“As a mysterious leader imposes his rule on the Platform, a new resident becomes embroiled in the fight against this controversial method of combating the brutal food system. But when eating from the wrong plate becomes a death sentence, how far would you go to save your life?”

Fans of the original, however, have reacted to the trailer with mixed opinions. For some, the original is unique and perfect as one of the best horror films, and shouldn’t be tarnished with a sequel. To them, the new film could just as easily have been called Lunchtime Boogaloo or maybe Pie Hard. But many more are intrigued, as the first film left them hungry for more, while others say they weren’t impressed by the original announcement, but the trailer has convinced them.
The platform 2 will be available to stream on Netflix from October 4, 2024.
