Netflix fans ‘obsessed’ with ‘new Yellowstone’ series Territory that scores well on Rotten Tomatoes

Netflix fans are obsessed with the new series Territory, calling it Australia’s version of Yellowstone.

The show focuses on a family’s struggle for control of a large cattle station in the Australian Outback.

Since debuting last week at the third spot on Netflix’s top 10 most-watched shows, the series has received an overwhelmingly positive reception on review sites and by fans on social media.

The show has a rating of 71 percent Rotten Tomatoes based on seven reviews of the show.

Several viewers drew parallels between Territory and the popular western Yellowstone, while others compared it to the hit HBO series Succession.

Currently in its final season, Yellowstone has similar storylines to Territory

The Territory revolves around the Lawson family and the struggle for control of Marianne Station, as well as the sudden death of the heir to the cattle ranch empire, Daniel Lawson.

Yellowstone focuses on the Dutton family and their struggle to maintain control of a large ranch in Montana.

The difference in locales isn’t enough to make some believe that Territory isn’t a carbon copy of Yellowstone.

“Territory is just Yellowstone with accents,” said one user wrote on X:

Others stressed that Territory’s ‘Yellowstone-esque’ atmosphere makes it ‘worth seeing’.

“Netflix just released a new series called Territory which is basically Yellowstone (it’s a great series),” someone else wrote on X.

Viewers on Reddit were less than impressed, with one person saying that Territory “felt like the Walmart version of Yellowstone.”

“Territory is like Yellowstone to The Hallmark Channel,” another Reddit user said claimed.

Territory’s stars also weighed in on the comparison.

‘I haven’t seen much of Yellowstone. Obviously it has had such a profound impact on the culture there and here,” said actor Sam Corlett Yahoo lifestyle.

“I think it’s an honor to be compared, but what I know is that this is so unapologetically Australian that I don’t see it as anything that’s ever been on screen.”

Another Territory cast member admitted that he loved Yellowstone.

“In the sense that Montana and the Northern Territory couldn’t be further apart,” star Sam Delich told Yahoo Lifestyle.

“I think there are similar themes, obviously, but overall I think fans of Yellowstone Territory will love it, but I just think it’s its own entity.”

Social media users weren’t the only ones to notice the similarities between Territory and Yellowstone.

One review from The Hollywood Reporter noted that the “soap-like show” fares better in its “attempts to weave the Indigenous perspective into the stories.”

“I think you might enjoy it for all the reasons it feels like countless other forms of entertainment you’ve enjoyed,” the reviewer wrote.

A reviewer from Screen hub described the show as a “high-stakes saga of a family in turmoil, with all the expected plots, schemes, backbiting and the occasional passionate embrace.”

“It’s a place where anything can happen, especially with these conniving characters,” the critic wrote.

“The feeling that there’s a surprise waiting around every corner makes Territory come across as more than just a devious family saga.”
