Netflix will stream Nike workouts to help meet your New Year’s fitness resolution

>

Netflix starts streaming fitness classes from the Nike training club to all subscribers on December 30 as the platform continues to branch out into other types of content.

The classes will be split into two batches and the second set will be released periodically next year, though it’s unknown what will be offered. When everything is ready, you will have more than 30 hours of training sessions at your disposal, according to Netflix (opens in new tab). For the first set you get five programs with 90 workouts in 46 different videos. Everything will be available in 10 different languages, including English. What each of the workouts will be is also unknown, but looking at the names will at least give you an educated guess as to what some of it will entail.

Workouts

For example, the six-episode program Fall in love with Vinyasa Yoga is, of course, about teaching people how to do vinyasa yoga. Two weeks to a stronger core, which consists of seven episodes, will focus on strengthening the core of your body, namely the abs and lower back. Then you have HIT & Power with Tara (14 episodes) that will most likely be about high-intensity exercise (HIT) and make you sweat.

The other two are vague. You have Feel-good fitness and Start fitness with the basics that’s six and 13 episodes respectively. In its own announcement (opens in new tab)Nike introduces the Training Club program “[caters] for all fitness levels, [requires] minimal to no equipment, and [spans] a wide range of workout types, lengths and intensities. These last two are probably the more relaxed beginner programs for people just starting their fitness journey.

We have reached out to both companies to get clarification on exactly what each training program will include and what the other languages are. This story will be updated if we hear anything.

To expand

This isn’t the first time Netflix has included health and wellness content in its platform. Back in January 2021 (opens in new tab), the platform launched Headspace content that teaches viewers how to meditate, along with session guides. As for other content, earlier this year Netflix started launching its own video games based on popular shows like stranger things, although the titles leave a lot to be desired and they are are not super popular. Still, we prefer Netflix doing positive things like creating new forms of content rather than being a total wet blanket like trying to get rid of password sharing, which scheduled to start in 2023 (opens in new tab).
