Netflix is canceling all but four interactive titles by December 1. The streaming service started its foray into interactive titles in 2017, and there was a time when Netflix released a new interactive special every few months, but it’s been over a year since the last one came out in 2023.
And I would know, as someone who has systematically gone through them all, played them, and figured out how interactive they are.
It’s a shame because the most recent title, Choose Lovehad finally realized the dating sim potential of these interactives. (It doesn’t matter that the main character literally had No reason to flirt with other guys while her fiancé was literally perfect for her). But December comes Choose Love is being removed from the platform, along with my other favorite interactive titles such as Barbie: epic road trip (which is surprisingly nuanced!), You vs. Wild: Cold (the best of the Bear Grylls themed interactives), and Escape the undertaker (which surprised me at how interested it made me in WWE lore). So if you ever want to help Barbie achieve her dreams or rescue an amnesiac Bear Grylls from the wilderness, you’ll want to load up those titles ASAP.
The only four titles left areBlack Mirror: Bandersnatch, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, Ranveer vs Wild with Bear GryllsAnd You vs. Wild. The last three are fine. Bandersnatch, while impressive and comprehensive, is a bit too dark for my taste. I’ve always appreciated the sheer variety of the interactive programs (although, yes, they did opt for the crazier and lighter ending).
