New Netflix Movie Ugly has managed to grab second place in the global top 10 of most-watched films on the best streaming service this week, behind only the action thriller Rebel Back to beat.
Based on the novel of the same name by Scott Westerfeld, Ugly is set in a futuristic society where perfection is everything. Joey King plays Tally, a teenager who longs for mandatory cosmetic surgery and the rest of society. However, when her friend disappears, she goes on a journey that makes her rethink everything she thought she wanted.
Netflix is ββhome to some of the best science fiction movies, but it’s safe to say that Ugly doesn’t come close with its abysmal 16% Rotten Tomatoes score at the time of writing. That hasn’t stopped the dystopian book-to-film adaptation from amassing over 20 million views worldwide, though.slides dis definitely not one of the best Netflix movies, so here are three sci-fi films that definitely are.

They cloned Tyrone is a pulpy sci-fi comedy-mystery about an unlikely trio – streetwalker Fontaine (John Boyega), discarded pimp Slick Charles (Jamie Foxx) and escort/wannabe detective Yo-Yo (Teyonah Parris) – as they uncover a criminal government conspiracy in a fictional American town where some seriously creepy events take place.
When it was released we wrote that βThey cloned Tyrone is the offbeat sci-fi comedy that Netflix needs right now” with powerful performances from its three leads and stylish influences from 60s blaxploitation films. Of course I had to mention one of my favorite science fiction movies Edge of tomorrow, which also landed on Netflix’s global top 10 list this week. It has become a cult classic within the genre and a box office hit that I, like many others, still look back on ten years later (just like the film itself).
Based on the novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, Edge of tomorrow follows Major William Cage (Tom Cruise), a public relations officer for the military in a future where Earth is trying to stop an alien invasion. After being killed on the front lines of a combat mission against the alien enemy, he begins to relive the same day. He joins forces with soldier Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt) to save the planet and change the outcome of the war while constantly spinning around in his mission.
A sci-fi film starring Cruise is usually a winner, and this intelligent, action-packed epic is just a reminder of that. Edge of tomorrow deserves a sequel with its blood-curdling special effects.

However, the pair’s relationship is turned upside down when a stranger (Hilary Swank) arrives at their bunker with disturbing information about the outside world.
I have looked I am a mother a few years ago, but it’s one that has stuck with me ever since with its compelling story, captivating special effects and exciting twists. It bears some similarities to 10 Cloverfieldlaanwhich is also one of my favorites, so if you like high stakes futuristic thrillers then I am a mother is an ideal watch.
