Netflix sets October release for Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft animation

Netflix has announced a new animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft will be released on October 10 in an exciting new teaser trailer (see below).

Based on the famous video game franchise that was first released in 1996, Netflix last year released a first-look trailer for the heroine’s next adventure, which also revealed that Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger, Mission impossible 7) would take over the voice of the legendary British archaeologist.

In addition to Lara Croft using her iconic arc from Crystal Dynamics’ video game trilogy, the animation goes one step further to stay true to the popular gaming franchise starring Earl Baylon (Lompia with a vengeance) in which he reprises his role as Jonah Maiava from the video game. In addition to Hayley Atwell and Earl Baylon, Allen Maldonado (Blackish, heels) joins the voice cast as Croft’s technology expert Zip.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft – what we know so far

In the action-packed release date trailer, the gun-wielding Croft embarks on even more dangerous adventures as she climbs caves, skydives and leaps over lava to explore new terrain. But an ominous voiceover narrates her perilous quest and asks how much longer she can hold out – though there’s no doubt that this won’t stop her daring pursuits and desire for adventure.

Her traveling companion, Jonah Maiava, also appears, but the timid explorer goes solo on this mission, with the series expected to follow the events that take place immediately after the Survivor Trilogy video games.

From what we know so far, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft sees Lara leaving her friends behind to embark on even more treacherous quests. However, Lara is forced to return home when a thief with a deep personal connection to her steals a dangerous Chinese artifact from Croft Manor.

According to Netflix Tudum: “Her daring pursuit will take her on an adventure around the world and into the depths of forgotten tombs, where she will be forced to confront her true self and decide what kind of hero she wants to become.”

Since the video game’s original release, Tomb Raider has become one of the most famous franchises in the world, so it’s no surprise that it’s been given the animated treatment by Netflix as a way to reimagine the old story.
